Hitachi ZX70 2100-Hour User Report: Fuel Efficient and High Performance
#1
The Hitachi ZX70 mini excavator has gained popularity among users for its excellent fuel efficiency and stable performance. Discussions about the ZX70, especially regarding fuel consumption and machine performance, have been quite active in the machinery community. Below is a user report from chenwei, who has used his Hitachi ZX70 for 2100 hours, providing an in-depth look into his experience with this machine.
Purchase Background and Reason for Choosing the ZX70
Chenwei previously owned a Yuchai 85 mini excavator. In December 2010, he decided to sell it and purchased a Hitachi ZX70 for 480,000 RMB. He considered mini excavators from Komatsu and Caterpillar, but ultimately chose the ZX70 due to its larger size, inclusion of a bulldozer blade, and more favorable pricing. Since then, this ZX70 has been in operation for 2100 hours.
Machine Specifications
  • Engine: Isuzu 6BD1, rated power of 40.5 kW
  • Weight: 7.49 tons
  • Bucket Capacity: 0.3m³ (optional 0.38m³)
  • Chassis Dimensions: Length 2.76 meters, Width 2.2 meters
  • Digging Radius: 6.32 meters
  • Max Digging Depth: 4.17 meters
  • Attachments: Equipped with a bulldozer blade, suitable for various types of work
Fuel Efficiency and Stability
Chenwei is particularly pleased with the fuel efficiency of his ZX70. In E-mode, the fuel consumption at full load (1750 RPM) is 5.2 liters per hour, and at 1550 RPM, it drops to 4.5 liters per hour. Even in high temperatures above 35°C, the water temperature stays stable, hovering around 85°C, without exceeding the normal range. However, there is a slight increase in overflow noise, which does not affect the overall functioning.
Routine Maintenance and After-Sales Service
During its use, Chenwei's ZX70 has not encountered any major issues apart from the regular maintenance. Although the machine is out of warranty, Hitachi still sends personnel periodically to conduct checks, which Chenwei finds very satisfactory. The maintenance work is generally carried out by the user based on the machine's operating conditions, and he continues to use the spare parts that were included with the machine at the time of purchase.
Summary
Overall, the Hitachi ZX70 mini excavator has earned high praise for its fuel efficiency, stable performance, and reliable after-sales service. Its low fuel consumption, even under high loads, makes it ideal for long-duration and high-intensity work. While there is a slight increase in overflow noise at high temperatures, it does not impact the machine's performance. With its efficiency, comfort, and reliability, the ZX70 has proven to be a popular choice in the mini excavator market.
