Doosan DH150W-7 Wheeled Excavator Operator Review
#1
While tracked excavators are more common and well-known, wheeled excavators offer unique advantages, particularly when it comes to mobility. Unlike tracked models, wheeled excavators can easily relocate across different sites, saving on transportation costs and time. Among the wheeled excavator market, those in the 15-20 ton range are the most popular. Recently, we spoke to a 24-year-old operator from Liaocheng, Shandong, who has six years of driving experience and currently operates a Doosan DH150W-7. He shared his insights on this machine's performance on a construction site in Beijing.
Background: Diverse Experience
Despite his young age, the operator has extensive experience with various types of machinery. He started with a Kubota mini excavator, progressed to a 20-ton Hitachi tracked excavator, and now works with the Doosan DH150W-7 wheeled excavator. His experience with different brands and machine types gives him a well-rounded perspective on the unique characteristics of wheeled excavators.
Key Features of the Doosan DH150W-7
According to Doosan's official information, the DH150W-7 is designed for high mobility without damaging road surfaces. It combines the powerful, stable features of tracked excavators while being well-suited for navigating narrow roads. This makes it ideal for use in rugged terrain with low earth-moving requirements.
Best Hydraulic System
One of the standout features of the DH150W-7 is its flexible hydraulic system. The joystick controls are divided into two sections, allowing operators to balance oil flow according to the job at hand. This enables the boom, arm, and bucket to operate smoothly, quickly, and efficiently, offering true ease of control.
Low-Noise, High-Power Engine
The Doosan DH150W-7 is powered by a 200-horsepower engine, featuring an Air-to-Air Intercooler. It meets domestic emissions standards and is equipped with a new cooling fan and large muffler, making it fully compliant with European noise standards. This ensures that the engine is both powerful and environmentally friendly.
Comfortable Operating Environment
The DH150W-7 is designed for operator comfort with low noise, minimal vibration, a comfortable seat, and a spacious cabin. It also includes a climate control system suitable for year-round operations, a multi-function LCD dashboard, and ergonomically arranged buttons, all contributing to an excellent working environment.
Bucket Design
The bucket is equipped with hardened connection holes and wear-resistant materials on the lip and side plates, improving durability and performance.
Operator's Review
The operator shared his experiences after using the Doosan DH150W-7 for over three months, primarily on backfilling tasks on the construction site. The machine's hourly operating cost is around 1600 RMB per day.
Advantages
  • Mobility: The wheeled excavator is much easier to move compared to tracked models, especially on large sites. The low fuel consumption is another key benefit, with the machine consuming approximately 500 RMB in fuel per shift.
  • Efficiency: The DH150W-7 outperforms other brands on the site, with faster operation and more efficient movement.
  • Reliability: The machine has not experienced any significant breakdowns during its use, which is a major advantage in ensuring continuous work on-site.
Disadvantages
  • Lower Efficiency Compared to Tracked Excavators: Tracked machines can move directly onto piles of dirt and start working, whereas wheeled excavators need to create a path before accessing the material. This makes the wheeled model slightly less efficient in certain situations.
  • Tire Wear: The wheeled excavator tends to wear out tires faster, especially on rough roads. This can increase maintenance costs over time.
  • Operator Fatigue: Compared to tracked excavators, wheeled machines require more frequent movement across the site, which can lead to operator fatigue, especially during long shifts.
Maintenance
The operator found the maintenance routine for the DH150W-7 to be straightforward. Daily tasks include greasing the machine and checking the air filter and oil level. There were no major maintenance issues during the operational period.
Issues Encountered
During the period of operation, the operator faced a few minor issues:
  • The bucket pin showed some wear due to a gap.
  • There was a leakage in the high-pressure hydraulic hose, which was resolved by the owner replacing six hoses without involving after-sales support.
Overall Assessment
In comparison to tracked excavators, wheeled excavators like the DH150W-7 offer distinct advantages in terms of mobility and fuel efficiency. This model performs well in its field, offering a comfortable driving experience and good productivity. While it may not be as efficient as tracked machines in certain scenarios, it excels in tasks that require quick relocation and low operating costs. The DH150W-7 is a solid choice for operators who need a flexible, reliable, and fuel-efficient machine for various construction tasks.
