Longgong 855B Rock King Wheel Loader 1000-Hour Usage Report
#1
I purchased the Longgong 855B Rock King wheel loader at the end of November 2009. After more than six months of use, and with just over 1000 hours of operation, I would like to share my insights on the machine’s pros and cons based on my experience.
Advantages
  1. Durability and Build Quality:
The 855B is part of the Rock King series, which gives the loader a solid, durable feel. The overall design ensures it can handle tough work conditions with ease.
  2. Stability During Operations:
When performing tasks such as earth loading, the machine seldom experiences “tail tipping”. The rear counterweight is well-balanced, helping maintain stability during heavy-duty operations.
  3. Excellent Visibility:
The driving cab features a panoramic glass design, providing outstanding visibility. This feature significantly enhances the operator’s ability to navigate and monitor surroundings, increasing safety and comfort.
Disadvantages
  1. Poor Interior Design and Sealing:
The cabin interior quality is below par, with poor sealing. After only a few hours of operation, screws on the dashboard became loose and couldn’t be tightened. Additionally, the doors do not seal properly, causing them to rattle when closed.
  2. Inefficient Bucket Design:
The bucket's cutting edge protector is poorly designed. The teeth extend only about 10 cm beyond the protector, making it harder to cut into soil piles effectively. After a few hours of use, I removed the protector and plan to weld a new one once I have accumulated some operating hours.
  3. Heavy Control Levers:
I’ve tested several Longgong loaders, and the control levers tend to be heavy, which is a common issue across their range. This can make operation tiring during long hours of use.
  4. Difficult Maintenance:
The engine hood’s side doors open upwards, making routine maintenance and repairs somewhat inconvenient. It’s not the most practical design for easy access.
Maintenance Issues
Around the 500-hour mark, I noticed a slight oil leak from the steering cylinder’s inlet pipe. By the 800-hour mark, the multi-way valve began leaking oil, but it was addressed by after-sales service. At just over 900 hours, the transmission oil pressure gauge developed a leak. The after-sales team informed me that the gauge was an electronic component and wasn’t covered by the warranty, which expired after three months. I purchased a replacement for 45 yuan and installed it myself.
Conclusion
In summary, the Longgong 855B Rock King is a powerful and durable loader, especially suitable for heavy-duty applications. While there are some areas for improvement, such as the interior quality, hydraulic control levers, and design for ease of maintenance, the machine has generally proven to be reliable. For those considering this model, I’d suggest keeping an eye on the maintenance issues that may arise after the first few hundred hours. However, overall, it’s a solid performer.
