Today, we bring you an interview with Mr. Liang, a long-time user of the Case CX55B mini excavator. Mr. Liang is from Jixian, Tianjin, and entered the excavator industry in 2002, initially using a tractor-converted farm excavator. He recalls that the machine frequently broke down, but over time, he became familiar with the equipment's working principles, which helped him gain valuable experience for managing and operating excavators in the future. Gradually, his entire family entered the excavator rental business. Since 2004, they have purchased a variety of machines, including one Kubota, one Komatsu, and 17 Case excavators. Today, they are a significant player in the excavator rental industry.
Purchase Information
In 2004, after accumulating his first "bucket of gold" from the farm excavator, Mr. Liang and his relatives purchased a 5-ton excavator from an international brand. During use, they faced issues with the track slipping off, and when dealing with the local dealer, they felt the service was inadequate. This led them to look for an alternative, which is when they turned to the Case CX55B mini excavator. The machine’s high-quality construction and its status as an imported product caught Mr. Liang’s attention, along with the excellent service provided by the Case dealer in Beijing, who worked hard to negotiate favorable policies and discounts for them. For Mr. Liang, purchasing a machine isn’t just about the quality of the product but also the level of service provided by the dealer. After considering all factors, he chose the Case CX55B.
Operating Conditions
Mr. Liang does not have any large, fixed projects. Instead, most of his work is small-scale, including monthly contracts for municipal, telecommunications, gas, and water projects. The primary tasks involve trenching, leveling, and some occasional breaking work.
Work Efficiency
Regarding the work efficiency of the Case CX55B, Mr. Liang has received positive feedback from his clients. This performance can be attributed to three key features of the machine:
- Zero Tail Swing
The zero-tail swing feature of the Case CX55B has been a game-changer, especially for city jobs with limited space. While other machines with tails struggle in tight spaces, the Case CX55B excels and can work in places where others can't.
- Rubber Tracks
Mr. Liang chose rubber tracks for his machine, which helped him secure several jobs in residential areas. Steel tracks are noisy and can damage lawns and curbs, but rubber tracks minimize these issues, making the CX55B ideal for work in such environments.
- Boom Offset Function
The boom offset feature of the Case CX55B has proven very useful for trenching along walls. This feature significantly improves efficiency for municipal and telecommunications projects, which often require working in narrow or restricted spaces. This capability has given Mr. Liang a competitive edge in securing new jobs.
For a typical workday, the Case CX55B consumes around 180-190 CNY worth of fuel per shift at 1500 RPM. This fuel consumption is considered moderate for a mini-excavator of this size.
After-Sales Service
Mr. Liang is generally satisfied with the after-sales service, as the dealer is responsive and addresses any issues promptly, often resolving them on the same day.
Drawbacks
Despite being largely satisfied with the performance of the Case CX55B, Mr. Liang has faced a few issues:
- Air Conditioning Issues
After 1000+ hours of use, the air conditioning system failed and could no longer cool effectively. This was problematic, especially in hot weather, as working without air conditioning in dusty environments felt unbearable. The lack of effective cooling not only reduced work efficiency but also created a safety concern for the operator.
- Bucket Issues
When Mr. Liang first purchased the Case CX55B, the bucket performed well without any issues. However, after less than 200 hours of use, cracks began to appear on the bucket. This led to some speculation about whether the bucket was made domestically. Eventually, Mr. Liang had to reinforce the bucket himself to prevent further damage.
In general, Mr. Liang is pleased with the performance of the Case CX55B mini excavator. He appreciates its durability and sturdy construction, especially considering it is an imported model. However, he hopes that the issues with the air conditioning and the bucket can be resolved soon. Additionally, he believes that lowering the cost of certain spare parts could make the Case CX55B an even more attractive option for potential buyers.
